Since 1981, Advanced Conversion Technology (ACT) has been a leading supplier of electronic and power supply devices for defense and other industries. Our clients, whether in the military or industrial sector, demand that every product we sell meets the highest standard of quality control possible.
When it comes to technology that plays a role in determining the safety of our troops, nothing less than high quality will suffice. To ensure we can deliver on this promise, we’ve invested time and money in the best equipment, the best processes and the best-trained staff possible.
Quality & Standards
Our Quality Management System
Our vertically-integrated manufacturing facility, located in Middletown, PA, gives us precise control over all aspects of the manufacturing process. From the initial machining and sheet metal fabrication to the final testing processes, all products are manufactured under our comprehensive quality assurance system.
By adopting fine controls and repeatable processes at the organizational level, we ensure every power supply we sell meets the environmental, mechanical and technical requirements of our clients. As a result, out of the many facilities in the United States, we’re one of the select few facilities that can produce power supplies to MIL-S-901, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 standards.
ACT’s Quality Management System is certified to AS9100 Rev C which is valid for the design and manufacture of ruggedized custom power supplies and electronic devices and is a dual certification as it meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 as well. ACT’s workmanship is per the latest versions of IPC/EIA J-STD-001, MIL-HDBK-454, and IPC-A-610.
A continuous improvement cycle is the backbone of any successful quality assurance program. At ACT, we recognize ongoing staff training as an essential component to further refinement of our processes. To support it, we have created an in-house training capability that is second to none.
Our team includes a full time IPC/EIA J-STD-001 certified instructor. In addition, ACT personnel regularly go through the training in the following areas:
- Quality awareness training
- Soldering skills training
- Safety training
- ESD training
- FOD training
All assembly personnel, as well as technical personnel, are put through a formal training course. This training consists of 40 hours of concentrated instruction for new hires, and is conducted by IPC certified instructors. In addition, continuous quality, workmanship, and safety training are conducted.
Military Workmanship Standards Compliance
All workmanship in our facility complies with MIL-HDBK-454 and J-STD-001 standards at a minimum. If requested, we can further refine our processes so that designs comply with MIL-HDBK-5400 or other requirements. Our long history serving defense clients and our vertically-integrated processes give us the superior flexibility required to fulfill any special requests or other needs. Power Input Specifications
In the expensive, technologically-advanced machines used by today’s military, precise power control is necessary to protect sensitive electronic components. To ensure maximum reliability, our power supplies are typically designed to meet one of the primary military input power specifications:
- MIL-STD-704 (Aircraft)
- MIL-STD-1275 (Military Ground Platforms)
- MIL-STD-1399 (Shipboard) (particularly MIL-STD-1399-300B)
We’re also able to adapt our processes to meet similar protocol for the aerospace and communication industries.
Military equipment is subjected to some of the most extreme conditions on earth — in addition to precise input power specifications, power supplies must be tough enough to meet typical environmental, EMI, and shock requirements such as:
- MIL-STD-810 (Environmental Test Methods)
- MIL-STD-461 (EMI)
- MIL-S-901 (High Impact Shock)
Deeply ingrained quality control processes, an attention to detail in everything we do, and a commitment to having the best-trained staff has been key to the growth of ACT over the past 30 years. We also have the capacity to test various standards in house, including MIL-STD-810. Whether we’re producing power supplies to various military standards or meeting the QC challenges of the aerospace industry, you can count on us to deliver sophisticated, reliable solutions every time.
