Types of Ground Vehicle Power Supplies
In the most demanding military applications, reliable power is a necessity. Advanced Conversion Technology (ACT) specializes in sophisticated technical solutions that can handle the input requirements defined by MIL-STD-1275, hence calling it a MIL-STD-1275 power supply. With more than 30 years of expertise, we are the first choice of military contractors and high end industrial manufacturers across the country.
MIL-STD-1275 Power Supply Requirements
MIL-STD-1275 is the published standard pertaining to the input voltage requirements for ground vehicle electronics (Vetronics) which results in specific ground vehicle power supplies. Military ground vehicles use a nominal 28 VDC power supply. A large portion of the standard deals with requirements for handling transient spikes and surges — important considerations for any power supply used to run critical navigation systems, radio communications, and other equipment in military applications.
According to MIL-STD-1275, ground vehicle power supplies must be able to handle:
- Transient spikes of up to ±250 V for 50 µs with durations no longer than 1 ms with maximum energy of 15 mJ
- Surges of 100 VDC for 50 ms from a 0.5 ? impedance source repeated five times per second
